Being stuck inside for long periods of time can really stink!

Since most of the world is now practicing this new hot term, “social distancing”, it can really get you down.

It’s definitely impacted our lives. And we’re sure it has yours too.

More time at home can mean a lot more family time to do things together. And that means things of every sort.

Be your favorite Disney villain in Villainous! https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/2019/12/villainous-board-game-review/ https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/2019/12/villainous-board-game-review/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2019 08:00:21 +0000 https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/?p=32796 The Board Game Family

With the launch of Disney+ this past month, millions of families are watching tons of classic Disney movies lately.

Of course, to families with young children, this comes as no surprise because they've probably been watching lots of Disney movies regularly anyway. In all these movies, we cheer for the hero.

Well, what about the Villains?

If we were to view these movies from the perspective of the villains, they've got some major challenges to overcome as well.

Now it's your turn to try!

What were you doing 10 years ago?

We know what we were doing 10 years ago.

We were starting family board game reviews!!

Of course, we didn’t foresee that 10 years later we’d still be going strong. But here we are.

That’s right, in the Fall of 2009 we established The Board Game Family and published our first family board game video review!

Since then, our video reviews have been seen close to 2 million times and our written reviews and articles have been read by tens of millions more.

It’s been an amazing 10 years!

Build your own city in Bloom Town https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/2019/10/bloom-town-board-game-review/ https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/2019/10/bloom-town-board-game-review/#respond Tue, 22 Oct 2019 04:45:27 +0000 https://www.theboardgamefamily.com/?p=32506 The Board Game Family

I can’t quite place my finger on why, but I’ve got a penchant for tile-laying games.

So, when I saw the new tile-laying game, Bloom Town, with its awesome artwork, I was immediately anxious to play it.

Lucky for us, the great team at Sidekick Games sent us a copy to review, so we didn’t have to wait long!

In Bloom Town, players all have their own player board where they’ll place tiles to build out their town to their liking. And they get the tiles to play from a common, central area – which means they’re also competing for those precious tiles.

With multiple things to think about during game play, it makes for an engaging play experience throughout!

If you are a fan of Charley Harper (like my family is!), you are in for a treat with this new game… if you’re not a fan, just wait… you will be!

Charley Harper was an American modern artist who used a style he called “minimal realism” to create prints, posters, and illustrations of the natural world, mostly birds, in a brightly charming style.

Pomegranate Communications and designer Cory Mimms have collaborated with the Charley Harper Art Studio to create an endearing, engaging board game for kids and families that features his signature style illustrating a variety of North American birds in five common habitats.

Another super fun weekend of board gaming at SaltCon is in the books!

I look forward to SaltCon with high anticipation every year and it never disappoints.

And that’s exactly how I’m feeling again looking back on last weekend of fun board gaming with friends and strangers.

SaltCon is our local board game convention that rolls around the first weekend of March. And like the previous years, it continues to hit record numbers.

For SaltCon 2019, more than 1,900 people came for the fun!

Here's my quick run down on the 20+ games I played over the couple days I was there.
